Tiro Clarke, K.C. Barrister & Solicitor

Tiro was called to the Bar in Alberta in 1996 and has practiced law in Calgary for 27 years. Tiro’s not sure how it happened, but these days he’s considered to be a “senior practitioner” and the rest of the Admiral team never misses an opportunity to emphasize the “senior” part.

Tiro has practiced law long enough that sometimes he summarizes what he does as “I fix things”. At Admiral Law we definitely fix things but we also help some clients to avoid undesirable situations, and others to get them to a desired outcome. While our focus is on providing ongoing guidance and transactional support for long-term corporate and commercial clients, Tiro used to litigate and has appeared at all levels of court in Alberta as well as in the Federal Court in files that have ranged from commercial insolvency to estate litigation. That experience continues to inform much of our work.

Although we never sacrifice the quality of our legal advice and work product, we consistently get feedback from clients who appreciate our relaxed style and our sensitivity to their particular circumstances. We value long term relationships with people whom we like and respect.

Tiro grew up on Vancouver Island in Sidney, BC and still loves the ocean. In 2022 he and Deb completed a long-term goal of sailing from Vancouver Island to French Polynesia and Fiji in the South Pacific Ocean, and then across the Tasman Sea to Australia, a journey which saw them spend collectively well over 80 days at sea, out of sight of land. Even now Tiro still loves offshore sailing and hopes to complete other passages, albeit on other people’s boats. Before becoming a lawyer, Tiro was a mineral exploration geologist on projects ranging from Yukon through British Columbia and into the Northwestern United States. Rocks still fascinate him as they all have a story to tell. Tiro has two children, a daughter who studied at UVic and is now an author living on Vancouver Island, and a son who is studying and competing in track and field at Western University. For fun, Tiro enjoys playing hockey with the Tuesday night boys, as well as fishing and sailing – usually on Canada’s West Coast but in warmer waters if the opportunity arises. In other spare time, Tiro plays tenor sax with the Westwinds Gold Jazz North band (with a big shout out to SeaWind saxes made on Vancouver Island by Phil Dwyer and Claudio Fantinato).

In 2022, Tiro was honoured with a Queen’s Counsel (QC) designation from the Alberta Minister of Justice and Solicitor General. Now known as King’s Counsel or KC, the designation recognizes lawyers who have provided exceptional service to Albertans and the legal community and who have made significant contributions to the administration of justice.

Kristina Saedi, Barrister & Solicitor

Kristina is a partner with Admiral Law and her practice is largely dedicated to ongoing advice to commercial clients, including employment law matters and transactional work such as tax-reorganizations, acquisitions, and divestitures. She has represented both purchasers and sellers in share and asset transactions and has recently acted for the purchasers of significant interests in industrial enterprises. Kristina and the Admiral Law team work closely with clients to get them to where they want to be, whether it’s through a complicated sequence of corporate transactions, a simple house purchase or assisting them with their employment law matters.  Kristina won’t miss an opportunity to remind Tiro that he is the “senior” partner but that doesn’t stop them from working closely together to manage all the legal aspects of their clients’ matters.

Before joining Admiral Law as an articling student in 2016, Kristina spent two summers working as a Judicial Clerk at the Provincial Court of Alberta and another as a legal student working closely with in-house counsel in an Oil & Gas firm on corporate matters. Kristina obtained both her Juris Doctor and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Calgary.

She was born and raised in Calgary and remains passionate about volunteering with various local organizations. Kristina is particularly excited about her latest project, joining the Calgary Stampede Promotions Committee in 2019 which sees her volunteering year-round at various events, including the Batter Boys program at schools and communities and the Happy Trails program in senior homes. When not spending time with family and friends, in her spare time, Kristina enjoys remaining active by playing on various recreational sports teams, snowboarding and most recently by taking up golf.
