Tiro Clarke, K.C. Barrister & Solicitor

Tiro brings 30 years of legal experience to bear on advising private companies and their owners on transactional and operational matters.

Tiro grew up on Vancouver Island in Sidney, BC and still loves the ocean. In 2022 he and Deb completed a long-term goal of sailing from Vancouver Island to French Polynesia and Fiji in the South Pacific Ocean, and then across the Tasman Sea to Australia, a journey which saw them spend well over 80 days at sea. Tiro still loves offshore sailing and hopes to complete other passages, albeit on other people’s boats. Before becoming a lawyer, Tiro was a mineral exploration geologist on projects ranging from Yukon through British Columbia and into the Northwestern United States. Rocks still fascinate him as they all have a story to tell. Tiro has two children, a daughter who studied at UVic and is now an author living on Vancouver Island (stay tuned for her fantasy pirate book!) and a son who recently completed an engineering degree and is soon embarking on a career in reservoir engineering. For fun, Tiro enjoys playing hockey, motorbiking, fishing and sailing – the latter two usually on Canada’s West Coast but in warmer waters if the opportunity arises. In other spare time, Tiro plays saxophone with the Westwinds Gold Jazz North band, with SeaWind tenor and alto horns made on Vancouver Island by Phil Dwyer and a tenor sax made by JL Woodwinds in New York.

In 2022, Tiro was honored with a Queen’s Counsel (QC) designation from the Alberta Minister of Justice and Solicitor General. Now known as King’s Counsel (KC), the designation recognizes lawyers who have provided exceptional service to Albertans and the legal community and who have made significant contributions to the administration of justice.
