Tiro Clarke, Barrister & Solicitor

Tiro was called to the Bar in Alberta in 1996 and has practiced law in Calgary for over 22 years. Tiro’s not sure how it happened, but these days he’s considered to be a “senior practitioner” and Kristina never misses an opportunity to emphasize the “senior” part.

Tiro has practiced law long enough that sometimes he summarizes what he does as “I fix things”, but there’s more to it, obviously. At Admiral Law we definitely “fix things” but we also get clients to where they want to be, whether it’s through a complicated sequence of corporate transactions, a simple house purchase or assisting with their estate planning. As a litigator, Tiro has appeared at all levels of court in Alberta as well as in the Federal Court in files that have ranged from commercial insolvency to estate litigation.

While we never sacrifice the quality of our legal advice and work product, we consistently get feedback from clients who appreciate our relaxed style and our sensitivity to their particular circumstances. We value long term relationships with people whom we like and respect.

Tiro grew up on Vancouver Island in Sidney, BC and still loves the ocean. Before becoming a lawyer, Tiro was a mineral exploration geologist on projects ranging from Yukon through British Columbia and into the North Western United States. Rocks still fascinate him as they all have a story to tell. Tiro has two children, a daughter who is currently studying at the University of Victoria and a son who is in Grade 12 at Western Canada High School. For fun, Tiro enjoys playing hockey with the Tuesday night boys, as well as fishing and sailing – usually on the West Coast but in warmer waters if the opportunity arises. In other spare time, Tiro has been reacquainting himself with his love of saxophones (SeaWind saxes made on Vancouver Island by Phil Dwyer and Claudio Fantinato), including playing in the Calgary North Gold Jazz band in the Westwinds Musical Society.

Trina has worked with Tiro for many years and make a pretty good team. If you have a corporate or commercial matter it’s likely that Trina will be involved in moving information and documents back and forth, among other things. Trina will be the one to let you know exactly what you need to do and what to expect during your time with us. Trina grew up in Montreal and moved to Calgary in 1994. She has a fairly large family and after them, her passion is water polo, where her involvement includes both playing and coaching.

Brenda has worked at Admiral Law since early 2015 and will handle much of the documentation in your real estate transaction. This usually starts with an introductory email and then moves through information collection and document preparation and then, after you have met with one of our lawyers, closing your transaction and reporting to you. Admiral Law has helped to pilot the Alberta Land Titles Online (“ALTO”) project and Brenda is proud to be the first person in Alberta to register a land titles document online through ALTO.

Brenda was born in Mexico but moved to Calgary when she was quite young. Brenda speaks Spanish and has two young children to keep her busy, as well as hiking and camping when she’s not chained to her desk.

Kristina is a junior partner with Admiral Law and her practice is largely dedicated to ongoing advice to commercial clients, including employment law matters and transactional work such as tax-reorganizations, acquisitions, and divestitures. She has represented both purchasers and sellers in share and asset transactions and has recently acted for the purchasers of significant interests in industrial enterprises.  Kristina won’t miss an opportunity to remind Tiro that he is the “senior” partner but that doesn’t stop them from working closely together to manage all the legal aspects of their clients’ matters.

Before joining Admiral Law as an articling student, Kristina spent two summers working as a Judicial Clerk at the Provincial Court of Alberta, and one summer as a legal student working closely with in-house counsel in an Oil & Gas firm on corporate files. Kristina obtained both her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Juris Doctor from the University of Calgary.  She was born and raised in Calgary and remains passionate about volunteering with various local organizations throughout the year.  Kristina is particularly excited about her latest project, joining the Calgary Stampede Promotions Committee in 2019.  In her spare time, Kristina enjoys remaining active and usually plays on various recreational sports teams year-round.
